2022 Nuits-St-Georges, Roncieres, Robert Chevillon

The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Roncieres 1er Cru, hit by hail in June, has a bright bouquet with black cherries, iodine and light violet aromas, taking a little time to cohere in the glass. The palate is very fine with silky smooth tannins, impressive depth, a caressing texture and more mineralite on the finish compared to the Bousselottes. Obviously, the hail had no impact here! Deep ruby. Mature, ripe red fruits (cherries, strawberry and raspberry). On the palate, the same with lots of spice and a slightly ferrous, Nuits-St-Georges typicality lending extra depth. An agreeably spicy, fresh and ripe nose freely offers up its array of poached plum and dark cherry. The refined, stony and energetic middleweight flavors possess fine depth while exhibiting even better length on the balanced and lightly austere finale that is firm enough to need a decade plus to fully resolve.
