2024 Volnay, Les Caillerets, Maison Benjamin Leroux

The 2024 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru, which contains two-thirds whole bunch, has a delineated and quite floral bouquet, plenty of red cherry and wild strawberry fruit, touches of bell pepper (from the stems) and even a dab of marmalade. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, lightly spiced with just a touch of pepperiness on the finish. I am intrigued to see how this will develop in bottle. ~ (92) Neal Martin, Vinous 1-1-2026

An exuberantly spicy nose is even more floral-suffused with its cool aromas of red cherry, currant and jasmine tea wisps. The lilting and exquisitely refined flavors possess a chiseled mouthfeel while exuding an almost pungent bead of minerality on the balanced and impressively long finish. Despite not being especially dense, this classy effort is quite firmly structured, so at least moderate patience will be required. ~ (92) Allen Meadows, Burghound 4-1-2026
