2024 Volnay, 1er Cru, Marquis d'Angerville
This too is aromatically cool, airy and elegant with its array of various floral nuances, essence of red pinot fruit and a whiff of exotic tea. There is slightly better volume to the beautifully detailed and noticeably stony flavors that also conclude in a bitter pit fruit and youthfully austere finale. This could easily be enjoyed young, or with 4 to 7 years of keeping, which is what I would recommend. ~ (92) Allen Meadows, Burghound 4-1-2026
The 2024 Volnay 1er Cru includes fruit from Les Pitures and Mitans as usual plus Fremiets, Taillepieds, Les Angles and Caillerets. The nose is quite open with vivacious red cherry, white-tipped strawberry and orange rind, a touch of iris flower. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, quite linear and strict, just needing a little fruit to flesh out on the finish that I suspect will happen by the time of bottling. This reads like a greatest hits of Marquis d'Angerville on paper yet like elsewhere, in blending them together it never quite translates a sense of place. ~ (91) Neal Martin, Vinous 1-1-2026
A tad deeper and bluer pale crimson than the Champans. Some additional nutty (walnut?) element to this on the nose. Very edgy and youthful. Almost bristling in texture! Very marked acidity and extremely youthful. Relatively GV! ~ (17) Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com 3-26-2026
