2023 Corton-Charlemagne, Maison Benjamin Leroux

An almost Chablis-like nose features notes of quinine and iodine, which add breadth to the aromas of petrol, white orchard fruit and an admirably subtle application of wood. There is good if not special density to the sappy and stony middle weight flavors that do display first-rate power on the balanced, compact and clearly built-to-age finale. The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from the lieu-dit of Les Longuettes. Struck flint and glimpses of yellow fruit open on the nose as this fleshes out nicely with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, quite poised with hints of Clementine and quince toward the light spiced finish.
