2022 Riesling Smaragd, Durnsteiner, Ried Schutt, Emmerich Knoll
The 2022 Riesling Schütt Smaragd was picked on the deep gneiss deposits of this site cooled by cold air from the Mentalgraben gully. It has ripe pear juiciness on the nose, followed by a bright lemon aspect tinged with yeast. Luminous, bright citrus sets the tone on the palate. This is juicy and beautifully long, stretched toward sunlight and cool, bracing air, like a crisp winter day. Lemon freshness rings long and brings this into focus. Concentration, lemony briskness and purity shine on the long finish. (Bone-dry) ~ (96) Anne Krebiehl, Vinous 2-1-2024
What a beautiful nose of mini bananas and ripe peaches with a touch of grapefruit. Concentrated with a stunning ripeness for the vintage, married to a wonderfully racy, wet stone acidity. So much salty character at the extremely long finish. Still extremely youthful, but the balance is already fantastic. Drinkable now, but best from 2025. ~ (96) James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com 9-8-2023
The 2022 Ried Schütt Dürnsteiner Riesling Smaragd shows a spicy and rather cool nose, but it's also quite pithy. The palate is dense, juicy and rich (or even slightly sweetish) but thankfully also persistently spicy and salty, with rather fine phenolics. The wine is stimulatingly complex but also quite expansive. Isn't that what the Veltliner Schütt is for? Tasted at Schloss Dürnstein, Wachau, in September 2023. ~ (93) Stephan Reinhardt, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 5-23-2024
