2022 Langhe Sauvignon Blanc, Alteni di Brassica, Gaja
The 2022 Alteni di Brassica is a super-elegant, refined wine. This is the first vintage that includes 30% fruit from newly planted vineyards in Alta Langa. Bright and refined, with tons of varietal character, the 2022 is impeccable. Citrus, spice, ginger and light tropical notes linger. This is a fabulous white, especially considering the warm, dry year. ~ (93) Antonio Galloni , Vinous 10-1-2024
Lovely aromas of sliced pears and minerals with hints of stones and peaches. Medium- to full-bodied with a creamy texture and attractive tension and mouthfeel. Just a hint of tanginess. Drink now. ~ (94) James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com 8-14-2024
On the market now, the 2022 Langhe Alteni di Brassica is the wine that best symbolizes the Gaja's dedication to exploring the potential of white wines from Piedmont. Indeed, the family has now completed its impressive new winery dedicated to whites in Alta Langa. This Sauvignon Blanc tends to show raw fruit aromas of citrus and passion fruit in its younger years. It leans into aromas of orchard fruit and tends to put on more volume and textural richness with bottle age. The 2022 vintage was a hot year, and the drought conditions that characterize the period between 2020 to 2023 left their mark. "We are surprised, because although we did expect concentration from 2022, we did not expect this freshness," says Giovanni Gaja. This wine plays its textural card very nicely and closes with citrusy flavors. One-third of the blend comes from Alta Langa, and that extra acidic zest comes from this new site. ~ (94) Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 1-30-2025
