2022 Clos de la Roche, Lignier-Michelot
Lignier produced 15 barrels of the 2022 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru, derived from holdings in Genavrières and Monts Luisants. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, orange zest, burning embers, exotic spices and loamy soil, it's full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with a deep core of fruit, supple tannins and a long, sapid finish. This is a terrific effort. ~ (95) William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 1-18-2024
The 2022 Clos-de-la-Roche Grand Cru, which contains around 60% whole bunches, has a more cohesive bouquet compared to the Clos Saint-Denis: pure red berry fruit, wet limestone, sous-bois and a tangible sense of primal energy. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins. Very harmonious with perfectly judged acidity, this fans out wonderfully towards the pixelated finish. Excellent. ~ (97) Neal Martin, Vinous 11-1-2023
Cask sample. Violets on the nose. Backward and with much more density than the Morey Faconnières. Impressive! Big, powerful grand cru which lives up to its designation. Will be spectacular in time. ~ (18) Andy Howard, JancisRobinson.com 1-18-2024
Ripe, fresh and beautifully layered aromas are composed by notes of poached plum and a variety of spice elements that combine with intensely floral, earth and sauvage-inflected nuances, all of which is trimmed in enough wood and menthol wisps to notice. I very much like the texture of the delicious medium-bodied flavors that, even if not especially dense, still possess good power and minerality while delivering excellent depth and length on the balanced bitter pit fruit finish that really fans out as it sits on the palate. Excellent. ~ (95) Allen Meadows, Burghound 1-10-2024
