2019 Chassagne-Montrachet, Clos St. Jean, Michel Niellon

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean is showing very well, opening in the glass with scents of crisp yellow orchard fruit, white flowers, marzipan and fresh peach. Medium-bodied, bright and tensile, its satiny attack segues into a deep, lively core, concluding with a chalky finish. ~ (93) William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 1-14-2021

A notably more restrained nose is both cool and pure with its combination of spiced pear, Granny Smith apples, lemon-lime and petrol aromas. There is impressive mid-palate density to the unusually powerful medium-bodied flavors that also conclude in a lemon-tinged and beautifully persistent finish. If I'm being picky, this bone-dry effort could use a bit more depth, but that should reasonably occur if allowed at least a few years of cellaring. ~ (93) Allen Meadows, Burghound 6-10-2022
