2019 Charmes-Chambertin, Armand Rousseau
The 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a splendid wine for the vintage. This has a sensual bouquet with vibrant red berry fruit, wild hedgerow, rose petal and, as I wrote before, quintessential Rousseau in style. Wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied and armed with that killer thread of acidity. Vibrant and mineral-driven, it fans out gloriously towards the finish and has a long road ahead of it. Superb. ~ (95) Neal Martin, Vinous 2-1-2026
All but invisible vestiges of wood can still be found on the very ripe and attractively spicy and beautifully layered aromas of red currant, forest floor, underbrush and a suggestion of warm earth character. There is excellent intensity to the detailed, palate coating and sappy medium-bodied flavors that are firm, powerful and unusually robust on the refined, focused, dusty and sneaky long finish where just enough warmth to remark upon gradually emerges. There is very good size and weight for a wine that is often on the lighter side yet the overall impression is rather one of refinement. ~ (93) Allen Meadows, Burghound 11-17-2025
The 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is turning out nicely, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet berry fruit and plums complemented by hints of smoked meats, preserved citrus, warm spices and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, supple and charming, it's pretty and fine-boned, with good depth at the core, velvety tannins and a seamless, enveloping profile. This is another cuvée that I suspect will turn out to be Rousseau's finest rendition since at least 2012. ~ (94) William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 1-14-2021
Sumptuous nose marked slightly by oak at this stage. Some raspberry fruit and real energy on the palate. ~ (18) Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com 10-8-2020
