2018 Meursault, La Seve du Clos, Arnaud Ente (1.5L)

Deep minerally spice and great depth of fruit. A very very slight reduction that enhances the mineral character. ‘I want it to disappear at bottling’, says Ente. ‘It’s fleeting. Reduction must be discreet.’ Salty, smoky, mouth-watering and with a core of fruit that only old vines can deliver. Deep in fruit without being fruity. Dramatic intensity without being showy. The 2018 Meursault La Sève du Clos has turned out brilliantly, and its extraordinary old-vine concentration is the perfect foil for the inherently open, generous vintage. Wafting from the glass with notes of citrus oil, fresh peach, beeswax, bread dough and crisp green orchard fruit, it's medium to full-bodied, multidimensional and incisive, its elegantly textural attack segueing into a deep, layered core, concluding with a bright, precise finish. ~ (94) William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 1-14-2021

This is usually the best of Ente's villages wines, and it is again in 2018 with its combination of various citrus elements with those of white peach, pear and floral nuances. There is even better density to the highly seductively medium-bodied flavors that also exude a subtle minerality on the powerful, palate coating and impressively persistent finish that is very tightly wound.
