2023 Volnay, Les Caillerets, Michel Lafarge
A spicy, and markedly floral-suffused nose lead to super-sleek, detailed and equally mineral-driven flavors that are notably finer on the beautifully persistent and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is also going to require extended patience, at least if you wish to see it at its best. In terms of sheer class, this is the best in the range. ~ (94) Allen Meadows, Burghound 4-1-2025
The 2023 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru, of which 50% is growing on spiral wires, has more mineralité and terroir expression than the Les Mitans, vibrant and focused with touches of oyster shell permeating the crunchy red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very mineral-driven with a sense of tension on the elegant finish. This is quite classical in style, so afford it three or four years in bottle. ~ (94) Neal Martin, Vinous 1-1-2025
The 2023 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets includes the first year of production of a new planting, trellised in a helix and cultivated by horse. Offering up pretty aromas of orange zest, red berries and potpourri, it's medium-bodied, supple and fine-boned, with a lively, elegant profile. ~ (93) William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 1-30-2025
Mid ruby. Lovely Pinot nose of sweet red cherry, mushroom and undergrowth. Fine velvety texture with high-toned acidity. There’s plenty of tannin underneath and a slightly metallic sheen. Ripe, savoury finish. ~ (17) Matthew Hayes, JancisRobinson.com 12-2-2024
