2023 Volnay, Clos des Angles, Marquis d'Angerville
A bright and wonderfully fresh nose also offers up ripe cherry scents are laced with hints of spice and red currant. The mouthfeel of medium-bodied flavors is fine to the point of being borderline delicate while delivering good punch on the firm, serious and saline-inflected finale. Lovely. ~ (91) Allen Meadows, Burghound 4-1-2025
The 2023 Volnay Clos des Angles 1er Cru is much fresher on the nose than the Premier Cru, lively with vivacious Morello cherry and raspberry scents plus a little more mineralité. The palate is balanced with a core of sweet red fruit, but the pH seems lower so that there is more tension and race on the finish. Though not long-term, this is a well-crafted, enjoyable Volnay. ~ (92) Neal Martin, Vinous 1-1-2025
Aromas of sweet red berries and cherries introduce the 2023 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles, a medium-bodied, supple and fine-boned wine that's pure, mineral and precise. This invariably pretty, open cuvée is one of the sleepers in the d'Angerville range. ~ (93) William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 1-30-2025
Transparent crimson. Really interesting nose, with an additional savoury layer to the premier cru blend. And, gosh, some additional interest and depth. I could drink this tonight! Such energy and layers of woodland and greenery. Utterly satisfying today. This may be the best value …? ~ (17) Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com 3-21-2025
