The focus and polish are so enticing, reminding me of a seamless piece of the finest cashmere. Medium to full body with blackberry, tapenade and dark-chocolate character. A hint of salt at the end. 100% merlot. ~ (98) James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com 4-15-2024

The 2023 Trotanoy is showing brilliantly, wafting from the glass with aromas of dark berries, rose petals, baking chocolate, spices and pencil shavings, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and elegantly muscular palate that's rich, dense and powerful, while remaining unusually sensual and harmonious for the standards of an estate that can sometimes produce hulking, monolithic wines. Concentrated and penetrating, it's an especially strong performer this year. ~ (97) William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 4-26-2024

Back home in the gorgeous deep shades of Trotanoy, fleshy and precise in its fruit structure, hints of peony and iris on the aromatics, layers of liqourice root and bitter chocolate. This is constructed to age, needs time because the tannins are on the severe rather than welcoming side right now. Bang on signature for the personality and architecture of the estate. Potential upscore in bottle. ~ (95) Jane Anson, Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux 4-22-2024

Dark-fruit aromas. Full and solidly built, the tannins firm and persistent giving a dynamic of power on the finish. Long. ~ (17) James Lawther, JancisRobinson.com 4-25-2024

Always one of the more structured, masculine wines in a vintage, the 2023 Château Trotanoy is all Merlot coming from 7.2 hectares of vines on harder, clay soils. Darker plum/ruby-hued, with a gorgeous mix of red, blue, and black fruits, it has ample spicy, iron, and graphite nuances, medium to full body, a firm, focused, concentrated mouthfeel, and enough ripe tannins to warrant bottle age. It plays in the more linear, focused style of the vintage, yet this brings considerable structure and depth and is going to warrant 5-7 years of bottle age. It has the classic Trotanoy-like bloody, salty, iron character that I simply love. ~ (97) Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com 5-8-2024
