2022 Chartogne-Taillet, Hors Serie, Extra Brut

I tasted the 2022 Extra-Brut Hors Série in three versions during dosage trials. Ample and creamy, the 2022 is a Champagne of striking textural breadth and resonance. Layers of citrus confit and floral notes develop with time. It will be interesting to see where this ends up, as the wine itself is absolutely gorgeous. I preferred the version with the lowest dosage, as it seemed to offer the best balance in a vintage that already offers so much natural richness of its own. ~ (96) Antonio Galloni , Vinous 5-1-2026

Disgorged in March 2026 with a dosage of 2.2 grams per liter, Chartogne’s 2022 Blanc de Blancs Hors Série unfurls from the glass with aromas of citrus oil, marzipan, cedar nut and bergamot, mingled with baked apples and a deft touch of oak. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and structured, it possesses an ample core of fruit animated by vibrant acidity and a pillowy mousse, culminating in a chalky, subtly almond-inflected finish. Derived from sun-drenched parcels in Avize—primarily on the lower slopes where shallow soils prevail—it was, as ever, vinified for some nine months in oak. ~ (93) Kristaps Karklins, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 7-30-2026
