2020 Barolo, Rocche di Castiglione, Roagna
The 2020 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is one of the highlights of this range from Luca Roagna. It is also a wine that needed 12+ hours to open. The wine's aromatics and inner perfume are total seduction. That's Rocche di Castiglione. Bright and focused on the palate with striking red-toned fruit, the 2020 Rocche is utterly mesmerizing. It is a Barolo that satisfies the hedonistic and intellectual senses. Readers who can find the 2020 should not hesitate, as it is a deeply moving, utterly profound wine of the highest level. ~ (98) Antonio Galloni , Vinous 1-1-2026
The Roagna 2020 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione beautifully captures the lifted personality of this celebrated MGA, framed by a distinct chalky mineral note that surrounds delicate fruit and blue flower. Hints of tarry spice and cured tobacco add further nuance. This site consistently delivers the precision and linearity that I most admire, and those qualities are on full display here, finishing with a lingering salty edge. Over the following days, the wine gains impressive definition, revealing layers of crushed stone, resinous spice and tar with ever greater aromatic clarity. It remains exceptionally fine and graceful on the palate, with less tannic bite than expected, although the texture never fully fills out, remaining slender despite its growing complexity. This is my favorite wine in the non–Vecchie Viti lineup. A total of 3,618 bottles were produced. ~ (96) Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 7-23-2026
A restrained wine with a subtle nose of minerals, wild strawberries, fresh violets, rhubarb, cherry stones and graphite. Full-bodied, firm and velvety, with ripe tannins and blood orange flavors. Long, minerally finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2027. ~ (96) Aldo Fiordelli, JamesSuckling.com 3-3-2026
