2020 Barbaresco, Paje, Roagna
The 2020 Barbaresco Pajè opens with deeply pitched spice and menthol notes to play off a core of vibrant red Nebbiolo fruit. It offers lovely inner perfume and sweetness wrapped up in firm, sinewy tannins that frame it all. This is a fabulous young Barbaresco—a classically youthful wine that just needs time to emerge. In many ways, it embodies the natural reticence that is such a strong part of the local culture. ~ (95) Antonio Galloni , Vinous 1-1-2026
The Roagna 2020 Barbaresco Pajè opens to a sweet spot of ripe cherry that is framed by the subtle evolution of early bottle age, softening the wine's youthful edges without diminishing its energy. I especially admire the nuanced character of this wine with its delicate details of small berry, rose petal and faint mineral notes. There is a lovely sense of freshness throughout, leading to a polished, persistent finish that lingers with elegance. A total of 5,688 bottles were produced. ~ (94) Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 7-23-2026
An elegant and stylish wine with fresh violets, roses, wild strawberries, earthy minerals and hints of Sichuan pepper and licorice on the nose. Full-bodied, firm, tense and fresh with a dusty texture, yet tight and well packed. Austere finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2027. ~ (97) Aldo Fiordelli, JamesSuckling.com 3-3-2026
