2020 Barbaresco, Albesani, Roagna

The 2020 Barbaresco Albesani presents an elegant, restrained expression of Albesani. Dried cherry, crushed flowers, cedar, mint and pipe tobacco open with a bit of coaxing. This ethereal, haunting Barbaresco has to much to offer. It will be interesting to see if it gains weight with time in bottle. The Roagna 2020 Barbaresco Albesani is softly layered and nuanced with a polished feel that creates an aura around aromas of redcurrant and violet. Subtle graphite notes add further complexity. On the palate, the wine is notably slender and graceful, with silky tannins and a delicate, almost weightless mouthfeel. At this young stage, it feels surprisingly understated for Albesani, leaving the impression that additional bottle age may be needed for the wine to fully flesh out.
