2019 Barolo, Santo Stefano di Perno, Giuseppe Mascarello & Figlio

The translucent ruby-colored 2019 Barolo Perno is even spicier, revealing a great nose of wild fresh red cherries, fresh roses, sweet fruit, and sweet fresh herbs. On the palate, it offers ripe and approachable tannins with a plush, velvety feel. I love this wine, which has both savory richness and great length, with long notes of apricot on the finish, and it’s going to have a wide drinking window. Fantastic. Monforte d’Alba. Pale ruby. More open and perfumed than the Villero of the same vintage and with savoury, minerally notes. Deep, red fruit with a deep layer of fine-grained tannins. Very long, tannic and tactile. Deserves much more time. ~ (17.5) Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com 11-15-2023
