1993 Musigny, Vieilles Vignes, Comte Georges de Vogue
Still remarkably primary with a nose that is the crystalline essence of black cherry pinot sap though there are the initial hints of secondary aromas and spice notes now in evidence. While still firmly structured, there is an opulence to the concentrated and mouth coating flavors that are supported by ripe tannins that are completely buffered by all the extract. This is flat out great and while still youthful there are now enough signs of maturity to say that it has arrived at its peak. In my view, this is the best de Vogüé Musigny since at least '71 and should live for 50 years without breathing hard, particularly in magnum format. Multiple, and consistent, notes in both magnum and 750 ml. ~ (97) Allen Meadows, Burghound 4-20-2024
The 1993 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru was a real surprise given that I have meted out criticism for the wines from this era. It has a mesmerizing nose with wild strawberry, raspberry and rose petal scents that feel youthful and exuberant. The palate is fleshy and beautifully balanced, supple and has delightful, seductive rondeur. It crescendos towards the finish that is armed with killer delineation, completing perhaps the best Musigny that de Vogüé oversaw that decade. Tasted blind at the Wallace brothers' Xmas dinner. ~ (97) Neal Martin, Vinous 3-1-2023
The fireworks continue with the 1993 Musigny from Comtes de Vogüé. Still quite young, the 1993 possesses striking, lifted aromatics to match its intense bright red fruit. I have long been a fan of the 1993 red Burgudies. This is a terrific example of the vintage at its best. A decidedly bold, extroverted Musigny, de Vogue’s 1993 will drink well for another two decades. Tonight, it is absolutely stellar. ~ (97) Antonio Galloni , Vinous 2-1-2015
